Wandel4daagse Alblasserwaard Hoornaar

Experience, taste and discover

Finally it was possible again in a responsible way. Four days of cycling and walking through the beautiful polders and values of the Alblasserwaard & Vijfheerenlanden. Along winding roads with pollard willows, through vast polders, but also picturesque villages and the authentic fortified town of Nieuwpoort. The cyclists could choose from four different distances, the walkers no less than six. They all lead past resting points, mostly Den Hânekerentrepreneurs, where, in addition to a stamp, a cup of coffee or something delicious could also be enjoyed. With more than 3300 sporty participants spread over 4 days (of which a large part has registered in advance), we as an organization are very satisfied. Also noteworthy is the presence of the Sunflower. Together with a number of clients and volunteers, they completed the 5 km walking route on Saturday.

Entertainment for participants and non-participants

“Serving multiple target groups was one of the spearheads that we formulated together in 2019. The fact that the plans then remained on the shelf for so long was force majeure," says Mariëlle de Bruijn. “This year we have seen that our event certainly meets the needs of families. On Thursday afternoon at exactly 2.30 pm, families with children poured into the tent from all sides to dance and sing along with Fien & Teun (known from Avonturenboerderij Molenwaard). Fantastic to see! And after the performance of the two characters, these children continued to enjoy the BSO HannesHoeve Kidsplein with a go-kart track, face painting corner – while parents had a drink on the terrace and enjoyed the performance of Let's Get Started.

Regional Parade

The visit of non-participants on the site was repeated on Saturday during the Streekparade. More than 20 entrepreneurs presented themselves during the 8th edition of this fair. In an accessible way, we introduce visitors to entrepreneurs from the region by tasting delicious farm ice cream, fruit and other delicacies. The prize winners of the coloring page competition were also put in the spotlight on Saturday afternoon and Fien & Teun paid another visit to the site.

Kennedymars 'the 80 of the Old Dutch Waterline'

The 24 th edition was also a very special edition, because in addition to the regular activities it was also possible to participate in an 80 km march in the context of 350 years Old Dutch Water Line. After the entertainment on Friday afternoon by the BoezemBoys and the Volherrie wind band, 2 buses with participants left from Hoornaar in the direction of Nessersluis, the starting point. Via Vinkeveen, Kamerik, Woerden, Fort Wierickerschans, Schoonhoven and Nieuwpoort, the route of 80 kilometers was covered, during which the participants walked part of the line over grass dikes. Mayor Theo Segers (Municipality of Molenlanden) and his wife walked back to Hoornaar from Nieuwpoort.

A tough walk, which was eventually completed within 20 hours by 121 participants. This march was organized for volunteers of the Four Days Marches Alblasserwaard in collaboration with Stichting Wandelsport Dordrecht, Glasstadmars Leerdam and Rotterdamse Wandelsport Vereniging RWV.

Together strong for the region! The motto of Den Hâneker fits seamlessly with all activities of this sporting event.

Smile for a Day Foundation

Saturday afternoon was also the momentum for the presentation of the check to the Smile for a Day Foundation. For each registration, we have donated part of the registration fee from the Vierdaagse Alblasserwaard to this local foundation that organizes wish days for children and families who need it so much. Marjanne van Hoorne and Ria de Wit received the check worth EURO 1652, after they and a team of volunteers distributed apples to cyclists and walkers on the route for four days.

Volunteers

Such an event cannot take place without a group of enthusiastic and enthusiastic volunteers who help with the set-up / dismantling, registrations, plotting and marking out the routes. We are grateful that we have been able to count on a committed group for many years. The same goes of course for our partner Rabobank Lek and Merwede, our sponsors, the rest areas, the warm contacts with the press and, last but not least, the local residents. Would you like to make a contribution during the 25th edition next year ? Then don't hesitate to send an email to info@vierdaagsealblasserwaard.nl
