FESTIVAL PROGRAM

Gower Walking Festival

The Gower Walking Festival returns in 2022, from Saturday 3rd September to Sunday 11th September, with nine days of thirty-three glorious walks!

At the heart of this year’s festival we are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Wales Coastal Path (WCP). Our first weekend offers the chance to walk the entire Gower section of the WCP, from Penclawdd to Mumbles (over forty miles), in two days. Over the course of the nine days, more than half of our walks will be on the coastal path. Find out more at Wales Coast Path

Walking is recognised as benefiting not only our physical health, but also our mental health. Walking gives you time to think, enjoy nature, and explore new landscapes. We have a wonderful team of volunteer walk leaders ready to share with you their knowledge of our special landscapes here on Gower and surrounding area.

Before booking, please read the How to Book Page, which includes our important T&Cs.  Some of our walks are dog-friendly, and the variety of walks on offer ensures there is something for all, from those who prefer a gentle stroll to the serious long-distance walker.

We do hope you enjoy this programme of walks exploring the UK’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Some specialist walks or activities cost more, as indicated in the walk’s description. Please note that this fee is not refundable.

You can book your walks:

  1. Online via this website using TicketSource ticketing.
  2. By telephone through the TicketSource dedicated number 0333 666 3366.

Please note that spaces are limited on all walks, and availability is shown on the TicketSource pages.

For any queries, please email info@gowerwalkingfestival.uk or telephone 07340 672963.

What you need to know – our Terms and Conditions

During the booking process, you will be asked that you agree to the following.

All participants in the Gower Walking Festival do so at their own risk and are advised to take out their own personal insurance. GWF does not accept responsibility for walkers’ safety or personal property while taking part in the walking festival.

The cost of the walk or event is to cover our administrative costs, insurance for the events, and the TicketSource booking fee. Bookings are non-refundable unless we are forced to cancel an event, in which case a full refund will be given to all participants of that event. Any profits made will go towards costs for the following year’s walking festival.

Walk meetings points are indicated by the START marker on each walk’s webpage. The grid reference is also on the webpage. Please check your start location in advance of the walk. We have also included the what.3.words reference for the start location.

Online bookings close eighteen hours before the walk start. If you have not pre-booked, and wish to go on a walk, you should contact the festival telephone number on the day. As spaces are limited, we cannot guarantee you will be able to go on the walk. If you turn up at start point, and have not pre-paid, and there is space, we can only accept cash payment.

BASIC INFORMATION

Gower Walking Festival

Walks will start promptly at start time. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARRIVE AT LOCATION AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE WALK START TO ALLOW TIME FOR REGISTRATION.

Most walks are circular (returning to the start point).

All distances and duration of walks are approximate.

Please check bus times as they may have changed since the publication of the walks. We have worked with local public transport to coordinate start times with bus arrival times. We advise you to check the website

Car owners should be observant of residents and businesses when parking in Gower. Please park sensibly, with consideration for residents and businesses nearby, and secure your car, with no valuables showing.

All walkers will need to supply an emergency contact phone number at the time of booking, and to be written on a wrist band provided at the start of each walk.

Please wear suitable footwear (walking boots) and clothing and be prepared for unpredictable weather. An inadequately dressed person could affect the safety and enjoyment of the whole group, so we reserve the right not to take a person who is not properly equipped.

We recommend you carry a drink (preferably water) and sun-protection.

Please inform the walk leader if you have a pre-existing medical condition of which he/she should be aware and for which you are carrying medication e.g. diabetes.

You should ensure that you have food and drink appropriate for the length of the walk. Picnic stops are indicated where needed, and you will need to provide your own lunch.

Dogs are welcome on only those walks indicated and they must be on short, controlled leads always. Owners must carry ‘poop’ bags and use when required. We walk near farm animals and wildlife. Some dog-friendly walks will include stiles. Assistance dogs are welcome on all land-based walks.

The walk leaders and co-leaders are volunteers, but many have had training. There will be one first aid kit provided for each walk. Most of our walk leaders have First Aid training. If you wish to leave the walk at any time, you must inform the leader.

Each walk is graded (number of boots) to ensure you are fit enough to participate. The grading guide and other symbol meanings are found on our Symbols page.

In the event of adverse weather or an unpredicted obstacle, the leader may change the route or reduce the walk length in the interests of the health and safety of the group.

Young walkers are welcome, but if aged sixteen or younger, they must be accompanied by an adult.

We ask that walkers refrain from smoking during the walk time.
