La Conca Dellà, al Pallars Jussà, is a pre-Pyrenees territory that stands out for its natural wealth -recognized by UNESCO in the figure of the Geoparc Orígens- and for its thousand-year-old history. The Conca Dellà Hiking Festival discovers this fascinating territory through its paths and a set of more varied activities: a route through mythical and legendary attractions with the writer Pep Coll, the visit to the depopulated i to the balmes de Montodó, observation of the nocturnal sky, a tour of an area of bunkers from the Civil War, an activity to learn to recognize the traces of the fauna that surrounds it...
WHY DO THIS ROUTE?
When we walk in natural environments we come across traces of animals that we do not always know how to identify, or it is even very possible that these traces go unnoticed. An expert guide on wildlife from the Salvatgines company will teach us how to find and identify traces such as footprints, excrement, feathers or food scraps. Will they be wild boar, roe deer or goat? We will also discover human remains: a commemorative plaque placed by combatants from the Lleva del Biberó.

WHY DO THIS ACTIVITY?
In the Geopark Origins the lands speak, inspire and serve as a refuge. Xavier Mir (scientific coordinator of the Geopark) and Pepita from Casa Gomà show it to us, who take us to Les Cambretes del Mas. You can get there from Conques, in a short walk. Seen from afar, the Cambretes recall the entrance to Gaudí's Parc Güell in Barcelona. When we approach it, if we look closely, we can find curious formations of calcite rock. On the other hand, the different layers of land tell us how the Pyrenees were formed millions of years ago. These curious constructions, excavated in the rock, have served as a refuge for man since time immemorial. The last to use them were the fighters of the national army during the Spanish Civil War. Today, marks of shooting can still be seen.

WHY DO THIS ROUTE?
The Conca Dellà is a land of myths, legends and even some hooliganism ... The writer Pep Coll will tell us some of these stories, compiled in the book Guide to the mythical and legendary places of the Pallars Jussà. We’ll find out why shepherd Patota weighed so much on that kid, we’ll find out how dangerous cherries can be, and we’ll try to find the lost altar that evil tongues say was thrown down the young ravine. All in a unique setting such as the old town of Biscarri, with the Romanesque church of Sant Andreu.

WHY DO THIS ACTIVITY?
On the occasion of the Hiking Festival, the Pallars Photographic Association has prepared the open-air exhibition "Vestiges of a War". The exhibition is located in zone 4 of the Civil War bunkers and trenches around the sanctuary of La Posa, in Isona. We will visit this set of republican military structures with the historian Núria Nolasco. The remains are the result of the nine months that the front line remained in the Pallars, with Isona in the middle of the clashes between the two sides.

WHY DO THIS ACTIVITY?
From Llordà we go to the depopulated area of La Vileta de Castilló, whose origins date back to the Iberian period. After climbing to enter the village, we find the main street, which is still clearly visible. That it has never been the subject of an archaeological excavation gives it a special magic. Also its strategic location, at the head of a hill, but at the same time totally camouflaged with the surroundings. The historian Joan Eusebi García Biosca accompanies us on this journey through time. Again in the present, we ascend to the hut of the Pamitxo, in Siall, one of the best viewpoints of the Pre-Pyrenees. On the way back we will pass by the slender and panoramic castle of Llordà, which was built by Arnau Mir de Tost in the 11th century. Unlike the other castles in the area, this one had a residential use.

WHY DO THIS ROUTE?
Rivers and borders do not always set territorial boundaries. Like Llívia in La Cerdanya, the depopulated area of Montodó is geographically located in the Noguera region, on the southern slope of the Comiols mountain range, although it administratively belongs to the Pallars Jussà region. Geographer Arcadi Castilló, among other experts, will try to unravel the entanglement. We will also visit the balmes that began to be inhabited in prehistory and have been used until four days ago as corrals for herds, and the hermitage of Santa Anna, an exceptional viewpoint over central Catalonia.

WHY DO THIS ROUTE?
It is unusual for so many Civil War fortifications to be preserved in the same area and in such good condition. The whole of the Figuerola d’Orcau mountain range consists of nine machine gun bunkers / nests that were erected by the Francoist army in 1938 with the aim of controlling the road that connects Tremp with Isona and Artesa de Segre. Isi Juvé, a mountain guide who specializes in Civil War spaces, will tell us.

WHY DO THIS ACTIVITY?
On the night of May 23, 1938, the bloodiest battle of the Spanish Civil War took place in Pallars. That same day, but 83 years later, Manel Gimeno and Isi Juvé reveal to us the secrets of what the national army called the 1,003 level. To get there, we leave the village of Orcau and climb the Costa del Llarg. The first stop is the captain's hut. We continue along the long trench, with bunkers on either side, enjoying views of envy under the watchful eye of the characteristic peak of Sant Corneli. On the way back, we pass by the castle of Orcau, which also hides vestiges of the war.

WHY DO THIS ROUTE?
In very few places in Catalonia is there the peculiarity that there are, in just over a kilometer, two settlements such as the Roman city of Aeso (now Isona) and a Roman villa the size of Llorís. Archaeological work being carried out on this site has uncovered a large country house with outbuildings, such as a baths and a mausoleum, which occupy a total of 10,000 m2. The town of Llorís was discovered on the occasion of the construction of the road variant.

WHY DO THIS ACTIVITY?
Between the mid-19th century and the mid-1970s, 53 mining applications were located, including research permits and concessions. The vast majority are coal, but there is also oil and even gold. The most important remains of this mining past are in the Victòria mine, located very close to the crossroads that leads to the village of Llordà. From Isona, we will drive by private vehicle to the area. We park next to the road, from where we start the route, two kilometers away between going and coming back. To get to the mine, you have to cross a ravine, which is the only tricky stretch. Overcoming this obstacle, we begin to find the remains of this mining past that we discover with the help of Eva Perisé and Miquel Bailac. The Victoria mine was the last to close, in 1971, ending the mining fever in the area.
